Medicare is a wonderful program that fulfills all the medical insurance needs for seniors and the disabled. There are gaps in medicare coverage that can be filled with two different types of plans. Those two plans are:
1. Traditional Medicare Supplement (A-J)
2. Medicare Advantage Plans

TRADITIONAL MEDICARE SUPPLEMENT PLANS allow you to go to whatever doctor or hospital you choose. There are no doctor or networks that you will need to consult for your coverage. Plan F is the most popular plan because it covers you for most of what medicare does not pay if you go to the doctor or hospital. Generally Part D or prescription coverage is purchased as a stand alone plan to these Traditional Medicare Supplement plans. Mutual of Omaha offers these types of plans that are named A-J.

MEDICARE ADVANTAGE plans are different. You give up your medicare benefits for a plan that has better benefits but you will need to select doctors and hospitals in a medical network. Generally speaking the Medicare Advantage plans have little to no monthly premium and include the Part D prescription drug program with the insurance plan. Popular plans are United Health Care's Secure Horizon, and Partner's Health Plans.
