Short term health care coverage offers a package of benefits similar to standard health care plans. Members determine how long they will need coverage. They can pay for it month to month, or in one lump sum. It is much less expensive if you know how long you will need it and pay for it all at one time. But if you might get coverage soon, the month to month option allows you to only pay for the amount of coverage that you need. If you get medical benefits after one month, you will only pay for just the one month of short term health care coverage.
Short term insurance offers a choice of deductibles. After meeting the deductible, will pay 80% of the charges incurred by the member. If out-of-pocket costs reach the maximum per individual per benefit period, or per family, Short Term Health Care will pay 100% of the member’s charges, up to the plan maximum
An applicant can choose any date to be the effective coverage date on the application. Coverage can be effective as soon as the day after the application is completed. Since Short Term Health Care is intended to meet only short term insurance needs, the policy is not renewable.
Applicants who need more than 90 days of coverage should consider a long term permanent plan from companies like Assurant Health, Celtic Insurance, or Golden Rule Insurance through United Health Care instead of the Short Term Health Care plan. Coverage can be coordinated to begin when the Short Term Health Care expires.
To be eligible for Short Term Health Care, applicants must be under age 65, not eligible for Medicare or Medicaid, and able to answer the short simple health questions. The application process generally takes less than 5 minutes.
